SF Bay Area Sailing Tour

Sail with your solar peers and experience the beauty of San Francisco from the water! We will see some of the Bay's most popular attractions up close and personal as we sail past Alcatraz Island, under the Golden Gate Bridge, and along the city's famed skyline. Catch a glimpse of marine wildlife including pelicans, sea lions, and dolphins. Last year we saw pods of breaching Humpback whales! Maybe this year we will get lucky again. Food and drinks are included in the price. The catamaran is spacious, incredibly stable, and has a covered cabin. Whether you're looking for solar networking or sightseeing, your sail on the catamaran is sure to be a memorable highlight!

Solar Winery and Microgrid Tour

This all-day tour—happening the Friday after Intersolar closes—will offer a unique opportunity to see a truly cutting-edge microgrid (with solar, hydrogen, microturbines, batteries, co-generation, and electronic controls technology) AND sample some Napa area wines!

First we will stop at Stone Edge Farm for a tour of their jaw-dropping microgrid project.  Stone Edge and its team of engineers from around the world are researching how to be self-sufficient for all their energy needs, including making wine. To get a glimpse of the incredibly important work Stone Edge Farm is doing, check out their “Prezi” presentation.

The second stop will be at Cline Cellars, where we will take a tour of their renewable energy and taste delicious wine. Join us for a unique, educational, and relaxing way to end the conference week. This is a tour you won’t want to miss!

Organized by NorCal Solar, a San Francisco area nonprofit organization and a partner of Intersolar North America.

Local Solar Farm Tour

Visit two local Bay Area solar farms! MCE, California’s first Community Choice Aggregator (CCA), will lead a tour showcasing two of its recently completed solar projects: MCE Solar One and the Novato Cooley Quarry. While navigating each solar farm, the attendees will learn how each project works, was developed, and benefits the environment and the local economy.

Site 1 - MCE Solar One: Utilizing a remediated brownfield site at the Chevron Richmond Refinery, this 10.5 MW solar farm will generate enough electricity to power up to 3,400 homes per year. The project supported over 340 jobs with a requirement that at least half of the workforce be hired locally.

Site 2 - Novato Cooley Quarry: This one-megawatt solar project generates clean, renewable electricity to serve residents and business owners under MCE’s Local Sol program.  Not everyone is a homeowner, and not every homeowner can install solar panels on their home, but everyone should have access to local solar energy. By participating in MCE’s Local Sol program one can directly fund a local solar project, promote the growth of the local green economy and ensure their ratepayer dollars foster sustainable energy development in the local community.

Organized by NorCal Solar, a San Francisco area nonprofit organization and a partner of Intersolar North America.

Solar Tour: Davies Symphony Hall and San Francisco Public Utilities Commission

Join us on a tour of solar sites in downtown San Francisco, lead by employees of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission! Our first stop will be the roof of the famous Davies Symphony Hall where there is a 588 panel, 182 kW installation. Then we will head over to the SFPUC headquarters to get a tour of their solar array and LEED-Platinum building.

Organized by NorCal Solar, a San Francisco area nonprofit organization and a partner of Intersolar North America.

The SunPedal Ride

'The SunPedal Ride' is a movement to create awareness about solar energy and to encourage electric mobility as a mode of environment-friendly transportation to ensure sustainability. 'The SunPedal Ride' project was started with an aim to trigger the mindset shift towards the sustainable sources of energy and decrease the dependence on conventional fuels. The project is to involve a solar powered electric bicycle as the 'medium of change' and make impact adventure tours in India and across the world by involving key stakeholders such as corporate organizations, academia and people at large to spread awareness.

India has an ambitious target of 100 GW of installed solar power by 2022. In order to achieve this target, skill development is a key aspect of sustainability. Hence, awareness is the first step to trigger the mindset shift towards skill development as a sustainable source. 'The SunPedal Ride' is a contribution towards achieving this goal.
